About the panelists:
Diane Tanios
Real Estate professional and Managing Broker since 2012. Her experience grew organically, managing her family's properties while navigating through the credit crisis and more recently through Covid-19. Her unique view on the industry and being a landlord in Chicago has led to the generation of new community through shared resources. By creating resident initiatives such as a community garden, outdoor movie nights, and driving attention to vacant commercial space through the use of highly stylized pop-up concepts, she has thrived in the current, and challenging, economic climate.
She is a Mayoral appointee to Special Service Area #8 in the East Lakeview community and has served on their Festival of the Arts Committee for the last 15 years. She recently joined the North River Commission and is an active member of the Small Business Advocacy Council, where she diligently works on policies to assist small business owners in IL.
Sal Becovic

Jeffrey Michael
An experienced legal and business professional, Jeffrey Michael has served as chief operating officer of the Horizon Realty Group for 18 years. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, this multi-family real estate investment and management firm currently owns 22 buildings in Chicago proper and two buildings in the surrounding suburbs. Mr. Michael's responsibilities with the firm include sourcing new property acquisitions, spearheading relevant construction and renovation projects, and managing the company's debt portfolio. He also ensures the firm's legal compliance and oversees general operational processes.
He previously served four years as an associate with the Chicago-based law firm Altheimer & Gray. This position involved facilitating complex acquisition and financing for a diverse client base of real estate developers/investors and lending institutions across the United States.
Jim Jann
Jim has been developing, renovating and operating north side multi-family residential properties for over twenty years. He has built apartment buildings, condominium development, and single family homes all over the north side of Chicago.
Jim is very active in real estate trade associations, having served as president of the Lincoln Park Builders Club and c of the Real Estate Investment Association. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois and Northwestern University of Law and is a former prosecutor with the Cook County States Attorney.
Sam Goldman
Founder and principal of Arbor Investment Management LLC, a Chicago-based family office that invests in an array of multifamily apartment and other commercial properties in Chicago and other growing urban markets around the United States. Through a variety of debt and equity platforms, Sam's involvement in commercial real estate extends from developmental projects to 'Class-A' stabilized assets with project sizes ranging from neighborhood walk-up to institutional-grade communities. Sam closely follows local and national housing and development policy.
Sam is a member of the Lincoln Park Builders of Chicago ("LPBC"), the Edgewater Uptown Builders Association, the Rogers Park Builders Group and represents LPBC as a board member of the Neighborhood Building Owners Alliance. Sam lives in Wicker Park.
